Ways to Get Involved

"When I see a child, who has suffered so much, laugh with abandon while she opens the first birthday present she's ever received, or a boy, who's already had a lifetime of hardship, make an A on a geometry test, I feel like a hero.”

Discover how you can become a hero to a child in need by browsing our volunteer opportunities and applying today.

Volunteering

Every day, volunteers for Trinity are making a profound difference in the lives of children in need. Throughout the years, Trinity’s primary mission has been to heal the wounds of abused, neglected and abandoned children, enabling a successful return to family and society. Volunteers play a vital role in fulfilling this mission by assisting with events, like birthday and holiday parties, helping with fundraising activities, and providing other forms of support. The benefits and rewards of helping children in crisis are many:

  • Sharing your talent, skills, and friendship with those in need feels great
  • Changing a child’s life for the better instills pride and hope
  • Giving back makes the whole community stronger
  • Helping children can open a door to a career in education or social services
  • Working with others on a positive and important activity can create valuable relationships

Donors can designate specific recipients – a local foster care office, the Michael A Alexander Scholarship Fund, residential campuses – or make donations on behalf of others. We accept many forms of donation, such as gifts in kind, stock, or vehicles, and have varied avenues for contribution, including planned giving and recurring online donation. Methods for Giving

Cash – Donors can give securely online through our online donation form (powered by Groundspring.org) – make a one-time gift or set up a recurring pledge donation. You may also make donations offline by cash, check, or credit card to your local Trinity office or the Development Department.

Events – Trinity CF holds many fundraising and development events throughout the year. Every spring we launch our annual Trinity Classic, a fantastic combination of golfing, entertainment, and philanthropy. The Steppin’ Up For Kids Walk-a-thon raises funds and awareness for foster children and campus residents in our Sacramento programs. These and many other events offer donors an opportunity to have fun, meet our benefactors, friends, and staff, and contribute to Trinity’s mission. Check our news and events calendar for upcoming events in your area.

Gifts in Kind – We encourage you to donate items, such as computers, cars, athletic equipment, musical instruments, and professional services, that meet a specific need and help Trinity CF save on operational costs. Trinity accepts donations of all vehicles and vessels, including cars, trucks, trailers, boats and RV’s, generally even if no longer operational.

Corporate Matching Programs – You may be able to increase or even double the size of your gift to Trinity Children’s Foundation if you work for a company that matches employee charitable donations. Check with your company to see if they have a matching gift program or contact the development department to see how you can enlarge your contribution through your company.

Gifts of Securities – Trinity accepts stocks, bonds, and all other securities as donations. In most cases, a gift of appreciated securities entitles you to an income tax charitable deduction of the fair market value of the securities on the effective date of the gift.

Planned Gifts – Consider a future gift. Planned giving is an excellent way to reduce or avoid estate inheritance taxes and help to ensure fulfillment of Trinity’s long-term fundraising goals. You may make a planned gift through a variety of vehicles, such as bequests, life insurance policies, individual retirement accounts (IRA’s), and charitable trusts. Please consult your financial or legal advisors when considering these types of gifts.

Programs for Giving

Michael A. Alexander Memorial Scholarship Fund – In California alone, only twenty-five percent of the four thousand foster children who age out of the system enroll in college. After emancipation, many youths in foster care and residential treatment are homeless, and have no high school degree, skills, or job prospects. But Trinity’s commitment to the children placed in our care does not end where adulthood begins. Through the Michael A. Alexander Memorial Scholarship Fund, we are able to help underwrite the college and vocational education of Trinity campus residents and foster children. Trinity CF created the fund in January of 2004, when Michael Alexander, the longtime president of our board and great benefactor of children and families in need, passed away.

Wish Lists – Our Wish Lists program affords an opportunity to give the comforts and blessings of home to children in need. Throughout the year, Trinity campus residents and foster children list their “wishes” in our quarterly newsletter. Our annual wish lists include a holiday drive, Trinity Games, back to school, summer picnics, and much more. You may give the actual items as a gift in kind or make a monetary donation so that Trinity CFS can purchase the items on behalf of our children.

Gifts from the Heart – Every year Trinity shelters and loves more and more children in crisis. These children or youth have often suffered neglect, abandonment, and abuse, and have missed out on most of childhood’s joys. Our Gifts from the Heart Christmas Drive provides that missing excitement and fun during the holiday season. Every child lists three wishes for Christmas gifts. Trinity’s development and program directors then reach out to their local communities through gift drives, collections, and Friends of Trinity parties to grant the wishes. Each Trinity local office or campus holds a holiday celebration and gives out all the presents collected during the holiday drives.
